Resurgent Medvedev Wins First Trophy in 882 Days
19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a challenging year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with former mentor Cervara.
Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This represents the player's first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since spring of that year.
Success also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one various tournaments.
"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.
"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
His retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.
However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.
He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five games to take the lead.
Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.
The opponent rescued four early-game chances in a close third set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.
Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
